What the Meta Tag Generator does

The meta tag generator writes the HTML that tells search engines and social networks what a page is about. You enter a title, a description, the page URL and an image; the tool produces the matching <title>, meta description, canonical link, robots tag, Open Graph tags (used by Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack and many others) and Twitter / X card tags — correctly escaped and ready to paste.

Live counters show the length of your title and description, with recommended ranges of 30–60 characters for titles and 70–160 for descriptions, so your snippet is not cut off in search results. Tag groups can be switched on and off, and the robots setting lets you mark a page as noindex or nofollow when it should not appear in search.

The tool deliberately leaves out outdated tags such as meta keywords, which Google has ignored for many years. Everything is generated locally in your browser.

When to use it

  • New pages and blog posts

Write a complete, consistent set of head tags for every new page of a static site or landing page.

  • Better social previews

Make sure links shared on WhatsApp, LinkedIn or Facebook show the right title, text and image.

  • CMS without SEO plugin

Paste the generated tags into the header settings of website builders that do not create them automatically.

  • Hiding pages from search

Create a noindex tag for thank-you pages, internal search results or test pages.

Tips for the best results

  • Write a different title and description for every page; duplicates make it harder for Google to tell pages apart.
  • Use a share image of 1200 × 630 pixels; it is displayed well on almost all platforms.
  • The canonical URL should be the main address of the page, including https:// and without tracking parameters.
  • Test the snippet with our SERP preview to see how the title and description will look in Google.
  • After changing Open Graph tags, social networks may show an old preview for a while because they cache it.

How the Meta Tag Generator works

The values you type are inserted into standard HTML tags. Special characters such as quotes, < and > are converted to HTML entities, so the code stays valid even when your title contains them. Empty fields are simply left out.

The Open Graph block uses og:type, og:title, og:description, og:url, og:image, og:site_name and og:locale. For Twitter / X the tool chooses the “summary_large_image” card when you provide an image and “summary” otherwise.

The robots tag is only added when it differs from the default “index, follow”, because search engines already assume that value.

Frequently asked questions

Which meta tags does a page really need?

A unique <title>, a meta description, a canonical link and, for sharing, Open Graph tags with an image. The meta keywords tag is ignored by Google and is not generated.

How long should title and description be?

Titles of about 30–60 characters and descriptions of about 70–160 characters display well. The counters under the fields show where you are.

Where do I put the meta tags?

Inside the <head> section of your HTML, before the closing </head>. In WordPress, Shopify or Wix use the SEO or header settings instead.

Do meta tags improve my rankings?

The title is an important ranking signal; the description mainly affects how many people click your result. Both are worth writing carefully.
